THE TIME I ALMOST DIED IN A PLANE CRASH AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME ABOUT LIVING Hello! So there I was on a work trip, going from Montana to Chicago. The plane had been in the air about thirty minutes when I started to smell smoke. Then all of a sudden the plane was shaking, and our oxygen masks came down from the ceiling. The flight attendant got on the speaker: "Everyone, please put your oxygen mask on now. Be sure to secure your own mask before assisting others." I thought I was going to die. But eventually the plane stabilized, and the pilot told us an air conditioning unit had burned out. If you want the whole story, watch this week's video here: [link] Here's the part that still gets me. Once we landed and I was settled, I called my supervisor to explain what happened — I hadn't even made it home yet. Her response? "I'm so sorry to hear that. Did you file the reports for the meeting?" I had almost lost my life. And the question was about reports?! I didn't push back. That was the water I was swimming in, a life where my worth was tied to output, where rest was earned and never given, where even a near-death experience didn't buy me a moment of grace. You may be reading this and relating. As an ambitious, high-capacity woman, you show up for your career, your team, your family, your community, everyone. And you keep giving and giving, from a cup that hasn't been refilled in a long time. Here's what I want you to hear clearly: you should not have to be in a life-or-death moment before you finally give yourself permission to rest. You shouldn't have to wait until your body shuts down, until you're so depleted you can barely function, to decide you're allowed to put yourself first. You cannot give from an empty cup. You can only give from the overflow. A few questions to sit with this week: *Where in your life are you still not putting your oxygen mask on first *What is it actually going to take for you to do it, not eventually, but now? *Where are you almost there, a little progress, but you know you could go further? If this is resonating with you, if you know you're not putting your mask on first, but you don't know where to start, come to my weekly workshop. Every Wednesday at 7 pm, we work on gaining clarity in the exact areas of your life that keep you stuck: work, emotions, values, lifestyle, and more. This is for the woman who's successful on paper, the visibility, the leadership role, the achievements, but still isn't satisfied and is headed toward burnout. Register for the workshop HERE. I made a full video telling this story in more depth, along with three shifts I want you to make starting this week. It's worth watching. 👇 CLICK HERE to watch this week's video. Take care of yourself first this week. Everything else can wait. Talk soon, Tiffiny P.S. If this hit home, hit reply and tell me, where are you not putting your mask on first? I read every response. CLARITY LED ME TO GOLF, WHICH LED TO... Hi There! So there I was on a beautiful Saturday morning. The sun shining, people laughing as they walked by, and me sitting at my desk typing on my computer. ‘ding, ding’ my phone squeaked, as another text came through, ‘hmm is that my friend Lisa? ' I thought as I picked up the phone to check the text, no, it was “Duke Energy” reminding me my bill was coming up due. “Oh yea let me go ahead and pay that energy bill,” I thought as I sat there. Then, out...
A FULL DECADE OF REFLECTION Hi There! My birthday was April 14th, and as I turned 46, I found myself reflecting on just how much my life has changed over the last 10 years. In that time, I've been through a divorce, a layoff from my full-time consulting career, a fitness business that failed, and a season where I lost everything, living off credit cards just to survive. But I also built a coaching business, broke into technology sales, started speaking, and eventually got to a place where I...
